This regeneration project stems from the need to create new commercial and office space in a 1950s building. It is a gentle and environmentally friendly renovation. The conservative intervention and the use of materials coming from the surrounding area (such as tiles from Emilia Romagna) have allowed a significant reduction in energy consumption, thus meeting the highest standards of sustainability. The three-dimensional cladding presents itself clearly as an additional, non-structural layer, almost like a curtain. Further, it picks up on the details of the original architecture on the lower level. in this way, the combination of new and old gives the building a ‘tailor-made suit’ that fits perfectly into the surrounding urban context. Persuasively, almost touchingly, the entire project reminds us that cities, together with their artifacts, are palimpsests in which history is both legible and palpable.
In this project, the custom made ceramic product by Cotto d’Este (a herringbone pattern) was used on the floor and was designed by Scandurra Studio Architettura.
